Final Queen — A Bloody Aussie Drag Horror Show

Final Queen grabs you from the start and drags you headfirst into a gloriously ridiculous world of horror, drag and unapologetically Australian chaos.
This solo show introduces us to the brilliantly named drag troupe, the Sassy Sisters, before sending everything spiralling into a parody that feels like Priscilla, Queen of the Desert crashed straight into a low-budget horror movie. Australia takes the front seat, pun absolutely intended, with the show gleefully playing with Aussie stereotypes while taking the mick out of practically every horror-film convention it can get its hands on.
Imagine Benny Hill, Carry On, RuPaul’s Drag Race and an Australian slasher flick somehow having a deeply questionable baby. That gets you somewhere close.
There’s queer circus, absurd comedy, horror parody and even a bludgeoned koala thrown into the madness. Subtle? Absolutely not. But Final Queen knows exactly what playground it wants to play in and commits to the stupidity.
The lip-syncs are exceptional and easily among the strongest elements of the production. They’re sharp, polished and delivered with the confidence of a performer who knows how to command a room.
At three stars, there’s still room for the overall production to tighten and develop, but the premise is clever, the characterisation is memorable and there are plenty of laughs buried amongst the bodies.
Camp, bloody and completely bonkers, Final Queen puts the drag in dragged to your death.
