Giuseppe’s Love Quest: Looking for Love, One Laugh at a Time ★★★★☆
Giuseppe’s Love Quest is essentially one wonderfully chaotic hour following our hero of the moment, Giuseppe, as he attempts to solve one of life’s greatest mysteries: love.
There’s just one problem, Giuseppe doesn’t really understand what love is.
Throughout the show, Giuseppe turns to the audience for answers, asking what love means to them and investigating all its different elements. Every response becomes another piece of romantic wisdom that he hopes to put into practice by the end of the show on his dream date. The ultimate goal? Find love, get a hug and, if everything goes particularly well, maybe even have a little pash.
This is clowning at its finest.
There is a loose structure holding everything together, but Jeromaia, the master behind Giuseppe, appears to spend approximately 98% of the show improvising around whatever madness the audience feeds him. That requires serious comedic skill, and Jeromaia demonstrates an impressive ability to listen, react and turn even the smallest audience contribution into something hilarious.
There are moments of complete absurdity alongside some genuinely creative clowning that elevates the production beyond simple audience interaction. Giuseppe is wonderfully endearing, and underneath all the silliness is actually a rather sweet exploration of how differently we understand and experience love.
If you’re looking for a first-date Fringe show, this might be the perfect choice. You can laugh together while simultaneously teaching Giuseppe everything you supposedly know about romance. What could possibly go wrong?
For anyone wanting an hour of laughter, improvisation and a performer who understands their comedic craft extremely well, Giuseppe’s Love Quest delivers.
Giuseppe might not understand love yet but he certainly knows how to work an audience.
